Accountant / Senior Account - Captive Insurance (Burlington, VT)

As an Accountant, you will work closely with a broader team of professionals ensuring all the compliance, finance and accounting requirements are met for a portfolio of captive insurance companies.

This is a hybrid role based in Vermont and will provide the candidate with a unique opportunity to grow professionally and expand their skill set.

What the day will look like

  • Preparing the financial statements for a portfolio of diverse accounts

  • Preparing regulatory filings and premium tax returns

  • Preparing supporting materials for annual Board meetings

  • Reconciling loss and investment report data

  • Support and collate key financial information for captive audits and examinations.

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of clients and serving as the primary contact for individuals from various departments, such as risk management, corporate controllership, tax, legal, etc. for both operational and strategic matters

  • Coordinate efforts with outside service providers, including actuaries, auditors, investment managers, brokers, claims adjusters and outside counsel to proactively meet client needs

  • Communicate with State regulators regarding changes to the client business plan, ensuring each client remains compliant with all regulatory filing and state directives

  • Prepare and present materials during client board meetings, ensuring quality and inclusion of value added information

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Experience in preparing financial statements with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or related experiences.

  • Proven ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.

  • Experience managing several projects simultaneously.

  • Bachelor of Accounting/Finance/Business administration degree or captive experience

  • Minimum of 3 year of accounting experience

  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing

The salary range for this position is $75,000-$90,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Burlington, VT. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.
